In addition to our grand Santa Arrival we will be having a “Green” Holiday Tree Lighting. The tree is being donated by The Port of San Diego, lights donated by SDG&E. During Santa’s Arrival (from 1 pm – 5 pm) kids can make ornaments out of recycled products to hang on our tree! Ornament making is compliments of Birch Aquarium at Scripps. At 5 pm, we will have a little ceremony and then light the tree. Here is the down-low on our “green holiday tree”:
The Port of San Diego’s Green Holiday Tree Lighting
Seaport Village and the Port of San Diego will hold their first-ever green tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. This event will feature a locally-grown tree to be turned into mulch after the holidays, LED holiday lights provided by SDG&E and ornaments made from recycled materials. Compliments of Birch Aquarium at Scripps, kids can make their own recycled ornaments for the tree that afternoon and watch them light up after the sun goes down.
Soooo… pretty much what I said above. hahaha! One of the things I really wanted to blog about was this-
The Seaport Village team has been toiling away on these unique and fun holiday wreathes!
They are made from hangers (found in my dads closet- thanks Dad!) and plastic grocery bags, collected from Vons on Midway (thanks Vons!) and Ralph’s downtown (thanks Ralph’s!) recycle drop offs. The bows that adorn the wreathes are ribbon that I have used at past Seaport Village events and saved. Everything used to make these wreathes is now being recycled for a new use (thus, staying out of the landfills longer). Nothing new was purchased or produced.
Each one is unique and made with love!
They will adorn the 22 foot tree that will be here for our Santa Arrival event and Tree Lighting Ceremony as well as the entire month of December.
They look so great, you will never believe what they are made out of! So come down and check ‘em out yourself. November 28th, 5 pm… Tree Lighting here we come!
Wreath maker,
Boardwalk Betty
